Song: Frosty the Snow Man with Piano by completelydisappear

16+

Although I was on leave yesterday, the actual start date for the long holidays is today (29 Dec 2012). What did I choose to spend my free time doing? I decided to help my brother assemble LEGO. Let me remind that my brother and I are already in our 30s. However, my brother has been really keen on building LEGO since his childhood. I remembered the time when my parents wanted to support his son by buying the LEGO models despite the fact that they were quite expensive as well as today.

After my brother grew up and earn his money, he started to buy those models that he’s interested in. I, myself, doesn’t fancy assembling LEGO that much if the models focus on cars, helicopters, airplanes or spaceships. However, this time the model is in the Modular Buildings series collection which really intrigues me to join my brother in building it up. This one consists of 3-story Pet shop and it is for anyone whose ages are 16 years up.

We spent almost 5 hours assembling this set. I truly enjoyed myself, and I was fascinated on its design. Despite closed walls after finishing, there are the small details inside that make this building looked real. For example, a small sofa, a spiral staircase, a terrace with small flowers, a bed with lamp on the side, a pot of coffee, a clock on the wall, a tiny toilet, a dog inside, a cat trying to catch a rat, two parrots beside the cashier desk and so on… Those carefully small details really add charm to this Pet Shop buildings. It shows how attentive the LEGO creators are, which I genuinely appreciate their inventive idea.

Late Beginner

I had attended the electone class for 1 year before I entered the secondary school. But I dropped it since I didn’t have time to go to the musical school during my school days. After that, I didn’t touch any musical instruments. However, I had this to-do-lists kept in my mind which one of the items is learning how to play the piano. I kept postpone this desire for almost 6 years since I first wrote down the list in my mind.

Fortunately, a peculiar situation had happened which made me realizing that I should start doing something for myself. That’s why I could get rid of my laziness and take a courage to enroll piano classes at the musical school near my home. Why do I use the word ‘Courage’? Because one of the reasons that I hesitate to apply for the lessons was the feel of inconvenience to be in the same class as kids. Most of students are kids and teenagers so I (in my 30s) kind of felt weird to be in the same class as them. However, the school has the personal class to offer for the piano lessons.

So far I’ve had classes for 2 months which I have been trying my best to keep up with the lessons and practices. It seems that we have to apply a variety of skills to earn the ability to play the musical instruments. We have to use memory to remember all of notes and other Musical terminology. We must use our ears to recognize and link between sound and notes. We have to practice how to play with both hands in the different notes. Every time I study in the class or play the piano by myself, I can feel my brain rolling. Right now I have a difficulty in maintaining the rhythm. Trying to find the way to understand it and hope that I can make it better soon.

I quite have bad habits which I tend to give up on somethings easily if I feel that I have to dedicate most of my free time to do those things. Although I’ve started to be a bit lazy in the piano practice, I tell myself that I won’t give up on it this time. I must give it a try, at least until I will be able to play this song or this song effortlessly. Someday …

On a lazy night

In Thailand, we have public holidays from 29 Dec 2012 to 1 Jan 2013 for New years weekend. Most companies will close during this New year holidays. For me, I am taking leave on 28 Dec in order to avoid the bad traffic on Friday before the long weekend which occurs every time. So I am feeling free right now since I am not obligated to go to bed early like other nights during the weekdays.

Although I am free which I should have written more on this post, I am just too lazy to do that. On a lazy night like this, the great way to finalize this post should be the cute video like this one.

The dog is utterly cute. Really put a lot of smiles on my face during watching the video.

Her

When I was young, I liked to draw pictures of girls or women; sometimes in full body or sometimes only upper part. Usually, I would draw those pictures while I was studying in the classroom. I wasn’t good at it though, it was just the way keeping me wake up. I didn’t know why I always felt sleepy every time I was in the class. Those drawings were like cartoons, not the portrait or anything. After I started working, I stopped drawing them since I mostly use computers for doing my tasks. Therefore, I don’t get much chance to write anything on papers.

However, I just installed the apps on my iPad called ‘Paper‘ which is the app of the Year 2012 in Apple App Store. Only the first time using it, I felt like I went back to my school years. Sitting at my desk and drawing them along with writing what the teachers taught us.

It’s like meeting my old friends on the paper, except this new piece of paper is the digital one.

Learning

I’ve just bought a new iMac 2 weeks ago. Admittedly, I am an Apple Fan. Whereas I own iPhone and iPad, this is the 1st time I use MAC OS. It quite takes time to learn how to use functions on iMac as I’ve been familiar with Microsoft Windows for such a long time since we’ve had our 1st computer at home almost 18 years ago. I am currently in the process of knowing the MAC OS. For this time, I was trying to edit a photo to post on this blog. If I had adapted it on my Windows 7 laptop, I would have used a free photo program called ‘Photoscape’ to edit it and I should have completed only in 3-5 minutes. However, I decided to use my iMac to resize and write words on the photo, which I spent more than an hour to finish the same task. Firstly, I used iPhoto to enhance the photo. I thought that iPhoto could resize the photo, but I could’t find any tool in it. So I searched for apps in the MAC APPS store where I chose to install two apps. Nonetheless, I wasn’t satisfied with them since they can’t provide me with the same functions as Photoscape. I started to complain this out loud!

Fortunately, I happened to double click the photo while I was looking at it on Finder (for me, these Finders in MAC is similar to those Windows on Microsoft OS). It turned out that MAC provides the photo edit tools to each photo when users open single photo to view from Finder. I could use those tools to resize and add some credit on the photo. This may not be convenient as in the Windows OS which I can use one free program to add filter, resize, write anything. But I think it is the part of the learning process, which it may be the painful tasks; however, it can be considered as the challenge. And so far, I like it.

On the road

I’ve just used iMovie to create two videos: one was the album of my photos trip visiting my friend in the US, another one was this short clip. I’ve used some effects that iMovie provides for us. The video was taken by iPhone 4 and I’ve never known before that if I took video in the vertical angle, the video pictures would show like that. Music was played by me on the piano. The song’s name is ‘Pinwheel’.

It’s so amateur and I knew it. But, I had to start from somewhere with a hope for the next.
